The Fit, Honda's 'small car' gets some minor updated for 2011. Electronic stability control is now standard on all Fit models. The base Fit also adds cruise control, remote entry and a USB interface, and the Sport gets carpeted floormats as standard. The Fit competes in an ever growing market of subcompact cars, and it finds a way to stand out, with its aggressive design and its smooth drive. For those searching for a vehicle in this class, the 2011 Honda Fit presents some strong points as a winner in the market by offering a compelling balance of economy, fun, interior convenience and comfort. It delivers engineering excellence and value. The Fit is strong in the safety department as well, it offers an especially strong body structure, along with a long list of safety features including front seat side airbags, full-length side-curtain bags, and anti-lock brakes.

Honda Fit Power for 2011

The 1.5-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine in the 2011 Honda Fit is fun to drive, in relative terms, with the manual gearbox. A five-speed automatic is also offered and comes with paddle-shifters in Fit Sport trims. The Fit's handling and maneuverability is impressive. It has a very responsive, tossable feel that makes it feel almost sports-car nimble yet also adequately refined and settled for highway cruising. Relative to other cars its size, the Fit feels remarkably comfortable at highway speeds. Like every subcompact, Fit is front-wheel drive, which puts the weight of the drivertrain over the wheels that propel the car. Fit’s suspension is also subcompact-typical, with a rear torsion beam and drum brakes.

Design of the '11 Fit

When the Fit last got a total redesigned in 2009, the new generation presented a more upscale appearance, with better materials and seats inside. Improvements included better performance and slightly more power on the road. A new 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine gave the Fit slightly more horsepower and torque, while upgrades to chassis and suspension components improved the overall ride and handling experience.  The hatchback body style maximizes passenger and cargo room. The 2011 Fit has a short snout highlighted by big, swept-back headlights. Its radically angled roof pillars frame a huge windshield. And its long-roof, wagon-like body is chopped off just behind the rear wheels, giving a look different enough to stand out from the others.

2011 Honda Fit Cabin

Get inside the 2011 Fit and you will find that it is larger on the inside than it looks. The Fit has room for five-passengers and a unique second-row "Magic Seat" that either folds flat with the cargo floor, or flips up to carry tall items behind the first row of seats. Honda somehow created enough headroom and legroom for two adults, or three kids, in back, and the Magic Seat folds flat by lifting a single lever and pushing the seatback forward, with no need to remove rear headrests in the process. The driving position affords a good view outward, and the steering wheel telescopes on all models. The dashboard layout is more orthodox than the exterior styling but is similarly functional, with large, unobstructed gauges and smartly designed controls arrayed within the driver’s easy reach. Fit’s audio system is a 160-watt single-CD unit with four speakers on base models and six on Sports. In addition to the USB interface, all Fits come with an auxiliary plug for digital players.

Honda Fit Lineup For 2011

The base level 2011 Fit comes with 15-inch steel wheels; telescoping steering wheel; power windows, mirrors (black outside) and locks; auxiliary input jack for your iPod; MP3/WMA playback; and 160-watt stereo with four speakers.

The Fit Sport upgrades with 16-inch alloy wheels, lower body flares, body-colored side mirrors, security system with keyless entry, leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, USB connectivity, two more stereo speakers, map lights, fog lights, and other amenities.

The Fit Sport with Navi also comes with manual transmission or five-speed automatic with paddle shifters; and adds Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) as well as satellite navigation.

Conclusions

A growing number of consumers are finding that the benefits of a smaller vehicle far outweigh what they must give up in cabin space. The 2011 Honda Fit offers those consumers and excellant option, it is a subcompact hatchback that’s a benchmark for space efficiency in an affordable, fun-to-drive package. And with the Fit's safety enhancements for 2011, including an antiskid system as standard equipment on all models, drivers will be confident that they are protected. Even the base model gets some decent standard features including cruise control, a USB iPod interface, and remote keyless entry. For more on this great model, visit the official Honda Fit site.
