New Year’s Resolution for Your Car

Nowadays it can be sometimes challenging to take care of your Honda as much as you should. While Honda’s are exceptionally built and have amazing value, they too need regular maintenance to ensure their longevity. And with 2015 upon us, we want to encourage you to make regular car maintenance apart of your New Year’s Resolution. We have some tips to make this New Year’s Resolution one to last the whole year:

  • If it has been a while since your last cabin cleaning, it may be time to clean your car. In addition to throwing things away, you should vacuum the in-between areas, wipe down your dashboard, knobs and other frequently touched items. You’ll appreciate it tomorrow.
  • While you’re at it, you may want to take it for a wash, especially if it’s been a while.
  • Begin a habit of checking your tire pressure once a month to ensure your tires are properly inflated.
  • You should also aim to have your tires rotated every 3,000 – 6,000 miles to ensure that each tire is worn evenly. This could save you hundreds of dollars in the life of your car.
  • On the subject of tires, check your tire treading to see signs of wear. If so, it may be time for new tires. Right now, we have a current deal for our Los Angeles area customers on tires for all the popular Honda models, so you should take a look at our service specials page.
  • Check your lights to ensure they are working at the proper brightness.
  • You should read into your Honda manual on how frequently you should have the oil changed, but typically it’s between 1,000 and 3,000 miles, depending on your driving style and vehicle.
  • You may also want to get your car battery tested, especially if you have had it for 3 years or more. Car batteries typically are meant to last 3-5 years, so it may be time for a new one. Right now we are offering a complimentary battery test and multi-point inspection with the purchase of a 4-wheel alignment. You can learn about this deal on our service specials page as well.

Tire Maintenance: A Key to Safe Driving

If you think about it, it only makes sense that keeping your tires well maintained and properly inflated is a key in keeping safe on the road..after all, your tires are your one and only connection to the road. This is one area of your vehicle that should never be compromised. Interestingly enough, many ignore their tires, checking the pressure and tread maybe two or three times per year. Tire maintenance is so easy and quick, though, that it is well worth it to make this a regular task.

First, you will want to read the manual that came with the car and locate the tire section. In there, you will see various tidbits of information regarding how much air should be in the tires, when to refill, air pressure, load rating, etc. These are all very important to ensure your tires won’t fail due to preventable issues. Checking your tire pressure is very easy, and yet only about 15% of drivers actually check their tire’s pressure every month. Also, don’t forget to check your spare tire either, because that very well can be on your car if you have a flat tire at some point. Having your dealership perform regular rotations will ensure that equal wear is given to each tire, which will make them last longer as a group. Tires should be rotated about every 5,000 miles, or twice a year.

Time to Get your Car Serviced? Here is What to Expect

These days most vehicle owners know how important it is to have their car regularly maintained by their dealership’s service facility. But many may not know exactly what needs to be serviced, or what to expect at the service center. Your car’s service manual is the best way to learn how to maintain your car. Car owners need to learn about routine maintenance at certain mileage intervals. These intervals are described in the owner’s manual. Your manual will give time increments, such as how often your oil should be changed. Some vehicles will even have a reminder display indicating that a service, typically an oil change, is required at a certain mileage point. A computer in the car’s engine makes a calculation based on a number of factors that more accurately determine the time at which oil begins to break down.

So what is the best way to schedule your vehicle’s service? Today, many dealership Web sites have an online service appointment form, fill it out and you have scheduled a time to bring your vehicle in. If you need an estimate of the cost ahead of time you can call your dealership, ask for the service department and get quotes. It is great to establish a personal relationship with a service center. When you arrive at the dealership, you may be welcomed by a “greeter.” Often, this person will take the vehicle identification number (VIN) and the vehicle’s mileage and write this on a form that is given to the service advisor.
You will then be given an estimate of the charges involved. If you have any questions about the billing, now would be the time to ask. Overall, having your vehicle service is a simple task, you can schedule with an online form, and usually get your vehicle in and out of the shop quickly, as long as it is routine maintenance. And in the end, it is the best way to protect your investment.
